Spy Hiding under the Floor, 1851

Comments - Interesting scene from Act 7 of the famous play "Kanadehon Chushingura" of the spy Kudayu hiding beneath the floor of the Ichiriki Teahouse as he spies on Yuranosuke, the leader of the 47 ronin. Yuranosuke has just received a secret message about the vendetta, the long paper trailing along his side as he looks up with a worried expression. Below, one of Lord Moronao's retainers strains to get a glimpse of the letter. A metal lantern hangs from the eaves, and curtains patterned with butterflies fill the doorway behind the samurai. A nicely detailed setting.

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 7/8" + margins as shown
