Swordfight with Woman Warrior, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Fantastic scene a swordfight between several samurai and a woman warrior. The participants stand inside an arena surrounded by a bamboo fence, a crowd of spectators gathered outside. A wild-haired warrior stands at right, gripping his sword with both hands as a young man throws out his hand in a stopping motion in the center, gesturing toward the warrior with his blade. A woman warrior stands ready behind him, holding a sword, the sleeves of her kimono tied back out of the way. Another samurai kneels at left, scowling. The walls of a castle can be seen at left, and the rising sun sends rays of light flooding across the morning sky. A terrific kabuki subject with excellent detail.
