Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Yodohei, 1855

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Kodanji IV as the yakko or low-ranking servant Yodohei in the play commonly known as "Sakura Hime." He kneels on the ground in front of a stone staircase, his hands clasped together before him as he looks up with a worried frown. He wears a blue kimono with a bold yellow geometric pattern and a distinctive striped collar, his hair pulled back into a slender topknot. Two elegant black lacquer cases are attached to a yoke behind him, and cherry blossoms frame the scene. A nice expressive figure.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 1/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Small loss at bottom right corner, a few small holes, repaired. Creasing, slight rubbing near edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
