Ceremony in the Woods

Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene of a ceremony taking place outside a shrine in the woods. At left, a princess nails a straw figure to a tree trunk, looking back over her shoulder with a solemn expression. She wears a headdress with three candles and has a mirror hanging from her neck, items used during incantation ceremonies. In the center, a young samurai thrusts his umbrella at the men watching at right. Just behind him, a wild-haired warrior in a dragon print kimono scowls angrily at the beauty. In the dark sky above, a cloud obscures the glowing moon. A fascinating subject with lively color and wonderful detail.
