Series; Actors on Battledores

Elegant Courtesan - Terrific kabuki portrait of an actor in the role of an elegant courtesan. The figure is presented on a decorative battledore called a hagoita, flanked by a feathered shuttlecock, a colorful ball, and a slender striped stick with feathers attached to it. She looks over her shoulder with a slight smile, several picks for playing the koto on the fingers of her right hand. She wears a green brocade outer kimono over a red under robe, tied with a re obi. Her hair is arranged in two large loops, adorned with large combs and many floral hairpins. A striking image, beautifully printed with vibrant color, embossing in the white kimono collar and feathers, and fine bokashi shading in the background. A fantastic actor print.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 1/4" + top margin as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. One small hole, repaired, blends well. A few faint creases near edges. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
