Visiting Kiyomizu Temple, 1857

Comments - Attractive kabuki scene of a man visiting Kiyomizu Temple, strolling about the grounds. He looks up over his shoulder at the visitors crowding the verandah of the building perched over the hillside, which includes a beauty looking through a telescope. He wears a black coat over an intricately patterned gray and blue kimono, a folding fan in his hand. The grassy hill behind him is dotted with pine trees, and a cherry tree at upper left is covered with pale pink and white blossoms. Beautifully colored and detailed, with delicate embossing in the flowers.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at top corners from previous mounting. Slight thinning at bottom left corner, repaired. Faint toning in margins, a few creases, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
