The Battle at Mutsu Kiywara in 1091 AD, circa 1830

Comments - Interesting scene of a battle in Mutsu Province in 1091. The two daimyo Kiyowara Takaenori and Kimiko Hidetake had been quarrelling, and Minamoto no Yoshiie, the governor of Mutsu, was forced to step in to settle the conflict. Here, a warrior on a black spotted horse gallops over a pile of fallen enemies, swinging an iron club in one hand while simultaneously tossing an opponent head over heels above him. A castle with stone walls runs across the back of the scene, with a pine tree framing the sky at right. A lively action scene, nicely detailed.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/2" x 10" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. A few wormholes, repaired, blends well. Creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
