From an untitled series of comic pictures of acts of the Chushingura, circa 1882

Comic Pictures of Acts of the Chushingura - Interesting design from a comic series by Yoshitoshi depicting the acts of the famous kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura," which tells the tale of the 47 ronin. In this unusual take on the dramatic story, Yoshitoshi creates amusing scenes of the characters in unlikely scenarios, such as the wild boar overrunning the villain Sadakuro in Act 5, or Yuranosuke pointing threatening a laborer with Lord Hangan's dirk in Act 4. A rarely seen Yoshitoshi series, rendered with lively line work and humor.
