Our Soldiers' Great Victory at Pyongyang, 1894

Comments - Terrific scene from the Sino-Japanese War of Japanese officers on horseback leading an attack against the Chinese at Pyongyang. They gallop over the hillside, waving swords high, followed by troops on foot bearing guns with bayonets fixed. At lower left, the Chinese encounter their enemy, with Japanese soldiers fighting hand-to-hand with the Chinese. At top center, the Japanese fire a volley of shots upwards as Chinese troops appear over the crest of the hill. Clouds of smoke and dust billow across the hilly battlefield, and a full moon glows softly yellow in the gray night sky. A lively illustration with wonderful detail, including burnishing in the black uniforms.
