Footman Holding Sandals, 1856 - Handsome kabuki scene of the actors Bando Hikosaburo V and Ichikawa Danzo VI performing as Matsushita Kaheiji and Tokichi. The yakko or footman at left wears a black kimono bordered with a pattern of gourds and vines. He holds a pair of geta sandals in his hand, and crouches slightly as if ready to spring into action. His companion watches with an alarmed expression, preparing to draw his sword. The inset above by Gengyo Miyagi features a verse and more gourds and vines. A dramatic image with beautiful wood grain impression in the gray background and burnishing in the black robe.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Most prints have a few small holes or thinning spots, a few have losses at corners or edges, repaired. A few have spotting or staining. Soiling and rubbing, slight creasing. Please see photos for details.
