Series; Foundations of Morality and Success
Kyodo Risshi no Motoi

Hojo Yasutoki - Great scene of Hojo Yasutoki, the third regent during the Kamakura Shogunate. A successful military leader, he led shogunate forces to victory over Imperial forces during the Jokyu War in 1221. He was highly regarded for his fairness and integrity, establishing the legal code of the shogunate. He wears full armor and a tall black court cap as he confers with his brother Tomotoki at the gate to a palace, surrounded by retainers and a groom holding the bridle of a lively horse. He had arrived to defend his brother from attack. The twisted branches of a large tree in the foreground provide a dramatic framework for this interesting view.
