Series; Selection of Scenes of Japan

Gion Bridge, Amakusa, 1924 - Lovely scene of a woman walking down to the edge of the river to wash the daikon radishes she is carrying under her arm. The wooden supports of the Gion Bridge are reflected in the shimmering surface of the water, and ducks drift along near the edge of the shore. At upper left, a lone figure makes its way along an empty street. Beautiful handling of the light on the river. A quiet, peaceful view and an early design by Hasui.
