Beauty Playing the Shamisen

Comments - Attractive portrait of a beauty playing the shamisen as she reclines against a standing screen. She looks over her shoulder with her brows slightly furrowed. She wears a green and black checked kimono tied with a geometric print obi over a red under robe. Her hair is pulled back into a smooth bun, adorned with a comb and tortoiseshell hairpins. The screen is decorated with a full moon and autumn grasses and flowers. An inset at upper right shows a couple in an interior, the woman reading a letter while the man smokes a pipe. A charming Edo era beauty subject.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 15" x 10"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A few small holes, repaired, blends well. Creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
