Actor in a Chinese Opera, 1926

Comments - Incredible shin hanga portrait of an actor in a Chinese opera. The performer wears a fantastic mask with spiral patterning around the cheeks and outer forehead, and a heavy dark red fringed beard. An ornate headdress adorned with a beaded tassel adds to the amazing appearance of the artist. Colorful Chinese flags with zigzag trims fill the background. A bold, dramatic design with wonderful color and graphic appeal. A rarely seen design by Yamamura Toyonari (Koka). Includes fine bokashi shading in the beard and embossing in the white tassel.
