Utamaro (1750 - 1806) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
On Top and Beneath Ryogoku Bridge

Comments - An incredible design in six panels by the master Utamaro. This scene of the Sumida River from above and below the Ryogoku Bridge is one of his great masterworks.

The view is looking downstream, past the pillars of the bridge, with the boathouses of the wealthy bakufu at the water’s edge on the left. The group on the bridge includes three maids from a nearby samurai mansion and women with their children. Underneath, covered pleasure boats float on the river in the late afternoon.

A complete original six print set is unattainable in the market today. This beautiful reprint is a rare find and an excellent ukiyo-e subject.

Artist - Utamaro (1750 - 1806)

Image Size - 21 7/8" x 21 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Six separate panels. Please see photos for details. Excellent overall.
