Beauty Playing Hanetsuki

Series; True Beauties, 1897 - 1898

Beauty Playing Hanetsuki - Charming image of a beauty playing hanetsuki, a game similar to badminton that is traditionally played at New Year's. She looks up with a grin, eyeing the shuttlecock hanging weightlessly in midair, her battledore read in her hand. She wears a black kimono patterned blossoms, leaves, and tie-dyed motifs over an under robe with a bold red and yellow collar, tied with an orange brocade obi. Her hair is styled in a large bun with a yellow comb and a wonderful miniature treasure ship with a swinging tassel. The treasure ship of the Seven Lucky Gods is also associated with the New Year holiday. A great design with intricate line work in the hair and lovely color and detail in the clothing.
