Famous Restaurants of the Eastern Capital - Handsome print from a collaborative series by Toyokuni III and Hiroshige, published between 1852 and 1853. Toyokuni III created the large actor portraits in the foreground, with Hiroshige designing the smaller landscape and still-life insets relating to the featured restaurant or its location. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has many of these images in its collection. These attractive designs are beautifully colored and detailed, making them a great choice for a collector interested in Edo era woodblocks.

The Koshuya Restaurant, 1852 - Handsome kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as the young samurai Takeda Katsuyori in the play "Honcho Nijushiko." He looks up over his shoulder with a solemn frown, his eyes wide, one hand resting atop the hilt of his sword. He wears an elegant blue kamishimo patterned with yellow yamabuki or mountain roses over a peach colored kimono, his hair pulled back into a topknot bound with white cord and combed sleekly forward. The inset at upper right shows Onarimichi street, busy with pedestrians, while the other inset feature a blue porcelain dish of fish from the Koshuya Restaurant. A handsome design, nicely detailed with embossing in the white cord and on the sword hilt.
