The Battle at Tianzhuangdai: The Gathering of Eleven Generals, 1895

Comments - Fantastic illustration from the Battle at Tianzhuangdai (Denshodai in Japanese) of eleven generals gathered on the near shore of a river watching flames and smoke rising from a conflagration on the opposite shore. In the center, troops are massed on the distant riverbank, with a few figures climbing ashore from the water. At right, one of the officers chats with a general on horseback, gesturing toward the blaze, while at bottom center, two of the generals wave their hands. An intriguing subject, beautifully composed and detailed with fine bokashi shading. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection. A great triptych from the Sino-Japanese War.

Artist - Gekko (1859 - 1920)

Image Size - 14" x 27 5/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small spots, a few faint creases. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
