View of Shiba Coast

Series; One Hundred Famous Views of Edo
Uo-ya Eikichi 1918 Edition Print

View of Shiba Coast - Attractive view of the Shiba Coast with a flock of gulls flying across the water. One of the first prints made for the series, this design employs a compositional device that will reappear in many later designs, with even greater effect. Hiroshige uses the wooden channel marker at left to frame the deeper space in the distance, clearly separating the foreground and background spaces. Boats travel along the channel at right near a zigzag stone embankment topped with pines, with another flock of birds above. Lovely color with fine bokashi shading in the water and sky.

Artist - Hiroshige (1797 - 1858)

Image Size - 8 5/8" x 13 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail. Minor spotting and staining in subject with light offsetting in margins. A few light spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
