Gekko's 47 Ronin Series - Handsome woodblock scene from Gekko's series based on the kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura," which tells the fantastic story of the 47 Ronin, who avenged their master's death. Each print presents a portrait of one of the ronin, capturing some in the quiet moments leading up to the final attack and others in the midst of battle. These lovely designs are beautifully drawn and softly shaded, with wonderful detail in the surroundings. Some are embellished with touches of silver mica, burnishing, or embossing. The British Museum has this series in its collection. These terrific scenes are a nice option for a collector interested in this classic tale of honor and revenge.
