Beauties at the Water's Edge, 1865

Comments - Charming scene of beauties strolling along the water's edge. At right, a young girl holds an elegant lacquer box, while the woman behind her carries a sword upright. Her kimono is shaded from blue to gray with a border of swirling water and cherry blossoms. The beauty at far left looks back over her shoulder, her robe trimmed with a blue bat print, while her companion leans forward with a smile, shyly holding her kimono sleeve to her chin. A village can be seen along the shore at left, and a few white sails dot the ocean in the distance. Attractively colored and detailed, with bokashi shading in the water and sky.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 18 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Two panels, attached at the seams. A few holes, repaired, blends well. Creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
