Autumn Moon at Akashi

Series; Eight Sights in Parody of the Tale of Genji

Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.

Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.

Autumn Moon at Akashi - Lovely image of two beautiful young geisha enjoying a moment of relaxation. The younger girl, wearing a soft pink and gray kimono, shades her eyes as she looks around. The woman in the foreground wears a somewhat sheer black and white striped robe, and holds a folding fan. The inset at upper right shows a full moon glowing above the seashore at Akashi. Beautifully drawn with graceful flowing lines, and detailed with mica in the white kimono collar. A classic Edo era beauty subject.
