Series; Twenty-four Enjoyments of Present Day Beauties

Fond of Theater, 1863 - Charming print from Kunisada's "Twenty-four Enjoyments of Present Day Beauties." Each subject from this series depicts a beautiful, elegantly dressed woman enjoying one of a variety of entertainments or luxuries of Kunisada's time. A wonderful portrait group on its own, it also offers a window into the lifestyles of the 19th century. Here, a beauty kneels on a cushion holding the latest kabuki magazine, with several others spread out on the floor before her. She smiles happily as she looks over her shoulder, tucking one hand into her obi. An attractive design, nicely detailed with fine bokashi shading.
