Spring and Summer, 1894

Series; Pleasures of the Four Seasons

Spring and Summer, 1894 - Attractive scene of a beauty and her companions gathering wildflowers in spring. She kneels down in the center, a cluster of tiny pink blossoms in her hand, as she gestures to her friend. At left, a farm woman walks along the edge of the water balancing a wooden tub filled with parcels atop her head, a baby on her back beneath her blue cotton robe. Her young son fallows along leading a pet turtle by a string. Purple irises grow along the bank, and a distant mountain is silhouetted in soft gray. A flowering cherry tree frames the scene at right. A lovely design and a rarely seen Chikanobu subject.
