Beauties Visiting a Shrine

Comments - Lovely triptych showing three beauties visiting a shrine. At left, a young woman starts to climb the steps up a steep hillside to the temple, pausing to look back over her shoulder at her companions. She wears a striped brown kimono tied with a pale pink obi patterned with phoenix motifs. The beauty in the center lift the hem of her robes as she passes under a tall stone torii gate, her gray kimono bordered with a delicately embossed pattern of flowers and grasses. The woman at right stands at the edge of an arched bridge, dressed in a dotted brown kimono with a design of stylized birds in flight, tied with a brocade obi. Her hair is pulled back into a smooth knot, adorned with a tortoiseshell comb and hairpins. A stone lantern and pine tree at right frame a view of the landscape as a flock of geese overhead descends for the night. A charming image with soft color and lovely detail, including embossed streaks in the sky to indicate low clouds.
