Eastern Genji in the Seventh Month, 1847

Comments - Handsome scene depicting Mitsuuji, the Country Genji, visiting a house in the country. He stands in the garden, grinning as he looks back over his shoulder. At left, a beauty reaches her hand out to his young sword bearer, who carries his weapon upright, wrapped in a cloth. At right, a beauty looks out the window, smiling as she shyly holds her sleeve to her mouth. She wears a red kimono patterned with morning glories, her hair adorned with a red lacquer comb and a cluster of blue flowers. Her older companion gestures towards her excitedly, eager to welcome the visitor. A full moon glows in the evening sky, and tall autumn grasses line the garden fence. An attractive image with fine bokashi shading.
