Stabbing at a Spy, 1852

Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of a man stabbing at a spy through the floorboards of a home. His face shaded with blue around the eyes to indicate his impending death, the commoner thrusts his sword between the bamboo poles of the floor at a man sprawling in a hiding place below. The beauty at right leans forward with her hands thrown out in alarm, while a crippled man sits on a straw mat atop a cart at lower right, watching with an unhappy frown. The home is rather shabby with cracks in the wall, and a straw raincoat and animal hide stretched out to dry hang at the back of the room. An intriguing image with expressive figures and a nicely detailed setting.

Image Size - 19 7/8" x 14 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail. Two separate panels. Some light soiling at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
