Threatening a Beauty, 1856

Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of a rogue threatening a beauty in a courtyard. He leans forward with an angry frown, a sword concealed behind his back. The beauty kneels at left, extending her hand in a stopping motion with a meek smile. Behind them, the figures of dancers can be seen in silhouette on the shoji windows of a teahouse, with red lanterns hanging from the eaves. At far right, a bucket hangs over a well next to a pine tree. An intriguing image with a handsomely detailed setting.
