Gathering Shellfish

Comments - Attractive triptych depicting a group of beauties gathering shellfish at low tide. At left, two women carry a basket full of clams suspended from a bamboo pole between them. In the center, a beauty leads a young boy by the hand, a filled basket tucked under his arms. The barefoot beauty wears a pretty kimono shaded from violet to rose, bordered with figurines, seashells, and blossoms. Two women walking in the opposite direction greet the group, one smiling happily as she holds her sleeve to her chin. The beach behind them is crowded with people of all ages digging for shellfish or cavorting on the sand. A terrific design with beautiful color and a handsome natural setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 29 1/2" x 14 1/2"
