Original Hiroshige III (1843 - 1894) Japanese Woodblock Print
Meiji City Scene

Comments - Interesting scene of a city during the Meiji era, featuring a large plaza flanked with two tiered fountains topped with statues of cranes. Many pedestrians stroll about the square, including foreigners in Western dress, two Chinese men with long pigtails, and a policeman carrying a baton. At right, a crowd has gathered in the entrance of a modern building with crossed Japanese flags above the doorway. In the center, a clock tower stands over the street, and pennants wave from a brick building in the distance. An intriguing subject with wonderful detail in the setting and fine bokashi shading in the sky.

Artist - Hiroshige III (1843 - 1894)

Image Size - 28 1/4" x 14"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. Slightly curled. Some minor ink bleed. A couple light creases in subject. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
