Sumo Wrestling Match

Comments - Interesting triptych depicting a sumo wrestling match held on the grounds of a temple to raise funds for the temple. The match takes place in an enormous temporary arena with several tiers of seating, the roof of one of the temple buildings visible at upper right. Two wrestlers are shown grappling in the ring, their muscles bulging as the referee watches them closely. Other wrestlers watch on either side of the ring, the entire area crowded with spectators. Several men climb ladders to the upper stands. A terrific depiction of this ancient sport, wonderfully detailed with fine bokashi shading in the sky.
