Yukinoshita (Saxifrage Plant) and Monks

Hokusai Manga, Volume 15, 1878

The Hokusai Manga - Hokusai first conceived of his Manga series in 1812 on a trip to the Kyoto area. Hokusai personally chose the title Manga, meaning "sketches from life," because he wished to depict an unlimited range of scenes, objects, and people, freely and at random, allowing his incomparable brush to lead him where it would. The complete set of Manga books was released in a total of 15 volumes over 64 years, with some volumes published posthumously. Each print expresses his wonderful ability to capture human gestures and personalities, often with comic overtones. These terrific woodblocks offer a great opportunity to purchase a classic Hokusai from his famous manga series at an affordable price.
