Original Ryusei Okamoto (born 1949) Japanese Woodblock Print
White Fox (Moonlight I), 1985

Comments - Intriguing limited edition contemporary portrait of a mysterious beauty among lotus blossoms and leaves. She tilts her face up towards the sky, eyes closed, her long ponytail twined around her arm. She has a red cloth draped around her waist, what appears to be pastel colored tattoos of lotus blossoms and fish scales visible on her back and arms. Dark clouds drift across the sky beneath a hazy moon, which casts a subtle gold mica sheen across the background as soft pink petals flutter to the ground. The subtly shaded background is divided into faint squares, resembling the gold leaf on traditional Japanese screens. A fascinating subject, beautifully printed and detailed.

A student of Toshi Yoshida, Ryusei Okamato has exhibited at the prestigious College Women's Association of Japan (CWAJ) print show. This print is pencil signed Y. Okamoto (for Yoshimi Okamoto, his birth name), titled in Japanese and English, and numbered 65/776 in bottom margin. A striking large-format image that would make a great framed presentation.
