Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Spring Street Scene

Comments - Interesting view looking down on a city street with pedestrians passing before an elegant multi-storied Western style building with a large clock outside. One man wears a black suit and hat, and carries a cane. Strings of red paper lanterns hang from a central pole, giving the scene a festive air. On the tower of the restaurant at right, a policeman can be seen fighting with three Chinese men on the tiled roof, a curious detail. Bright pink cherry blossoms frame the clear blue sky overhead. Wonderful detail in this handsome scene of city life during the Meiji era.
