Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Nakamura Shikan IV, 1859

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan IV as a man kneeling in an interior, grinning and crossing his eyes in a wild manner. A red robe with a design of a bird in flight is draped over one shoulder of his gray kimono patterned with stylized bird motifs. A sliding shoji panel behind him opens onto a view of the river, with a lone boat man making his way along the water. Snow falls through the gray night sky, and steps lead to a torii gate beneath pine trees on the opposite shore. An interesting subject with an expressive figure.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 9" x 13 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail. Backed with old paper. Slightly toned. Some rubbing and soiling at edges. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
