Suruga-cho, 1857 - Attractive design of a seated beauty smiling with delight as she unwraps the paper from a bolt of cloth. Additional lengths of colorful fabric are stacked on the floor both in front of and behind her, along with rolled items at lower right. The brazier or hibachi at right features the crest of the Mitsukoshi Department Store, located in Suruga-cho, which is shown in the inset above by artist Kunihisa. A charming image of a woman shopping for cloth at this noted company, which is still in business today.
