Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
The First Plum Blossoms in the Spring Sky, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of a group of actors under a blossoming plum tree at night. They relax and chat, exchanging a variety of expressions, two of the men crouching as they smoke pipes. The delicate plum blossoms frame a view of the dark night sky, the rugged trunk of the tree rendered in bold calligraphic strokes. The left panel includes Ichikawa Komazo VII, Asao Okuyama III, Ichimura Uzaemon XII, and Onoe Kikujiro II. The center panel includes an unidentified actor, Bando Mitsugoro IV, and Bando Shuka I. The right panel shows Fujikawa Hanatomo III, Ichikawa Danjuro VIII, and Ichikawa Ebijuro IV. An attractive design.

Image Size - 14 1/4 x 27 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small holes, repaired, blends well. Toning and soiling. Please see photos for details.
