Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Monkey Trainer

Comments - Handsome portrait of a monkey trainer with his animal perched on his back. The man smiles happily as he holds a leash in one hand and a red and white striped hoop in the other. The monkey is dressed as a Shinto priest with a tall black court cap, and it carries a haraigushi wand used in Shinto purification rituals. Nicely detailed with fine line work. An interesting subject.
