Series; Money Trees for Virtuous Women

Hardworking, 1847 - 1852 - Terrific portrait from a rarely seen Hiroshige beauty series depicting virtuous women. Here, a hardworking waitress busies herself wiping a large round tray with a cloth. She smiles as she looks over her shoulder, a stack of shallow cups resting on the floor behind her next to a water basin holding floating cups. A gray plaid apron is tied over her yellow kimono patterned with circular crests, tied with a black obi that reverses to a striped design. The title cartouche at upper left is framed by branches from a "money tree," with gold coins in place of leaves. A handsome design.
