Kusunoki Masatsura and Wada Masatomo

Series; Courageous Leaders in Thirty-six Battles, 1851 - 1852

Kusunoki Masatsura and Wada Masatomo - Incredible scene of Kusunoki Masatsura and Wada Masatomo under a hail of arrows during their last stand at the Battle of Shijonawate in 1348. Badly outnumbered, Kusunoki marched his troops out to meet the attackers, where they were defeated and Kusunoki committed suicide. Here, the warriors valiantly fight on against an onslaught of arrows, with Kusunoki at left gripping his sword upright and Wada at right charging ahead with his weapon at right. A fantastic Kuniyoshi design, with fine bokashi shading in the background.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14" x 9" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail. A few small holes and losses repaired from reverse. A vertical crease at center. Some spots and soiling as shown. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
