Comments - Action-filled depiction of the Battle of Pyongyang during the Sino-Japanese War. In the center, a general on horseback thrust his sword towards the fighting, urging the men behind him forward to join the assault. At left, Japanese troops surround a Chinese soldier on horseback, pulling him from his mount. Other Japanese are ready to pour through an entrance gate at left, meeting the enemy head-on as they attempt to flee. Wonderful detail in the expressive figures and setting, with burnished details in the black uniforms and fine bokashi shading in the smoke and night sky.
