Illustration of Attack at Jinzhoucheng by Second Army Having Landed at Hanazono-ko, 1894

Comments - Handsome triptych depicting the Japanese Second Army attacking Jinzhoucheng during the Sino-Japanese War. Troops rush forward at center, led by an officer on foot waving his soldier. A general galloping along on horseback fires his gun, striking a Chinese horseman in the chest as his frightened horse rears on its hind legs. Other Japanese watch from a small outcropping at right, one man holding a fluttering flag. A fortress can be seen in the distance along the edge of the water. An interesting design with a nicely detailed setting and fine bokashi shading in the sky and distant mountains. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.

Artist - Nobukazu (1874 - 1944)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 27 3/4" + margins

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three panels, not attached at the seams with a couple small holes in right-hand panel. Faint spotting and ink bleeding in subject. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
