Sino-Japanese Naval Battle, 1894

Comments - Dramatic illustration of a naval battle from the Sino-Japanese War. At right, small boats carrying sailors from each side clash as the meet, with a Japanese sailor raising his gun overhead to use it as a club on his enemy. Another Chinese has tumbled into the water, his legs kicking as he goes down. At upper right, sailors leap overboard from a sinking Chinese ship amidst clouds of smoke. At left, two Japanese warships steam towards the Chinese vessel. Carefully drawn with expressive figures and fine bokashi shading in the sky. An unusual depiction of men fighting in small crafts.

Artist - Nobukazu (1874 - 1944)

Image Size - 14" x 27 3/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three panels, not attached at the seams with faint spotting and soiling in subject. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
