Kintai Bridge

Series; Eight Views of Edo

Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.

Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.

Kintai Bridge - Fantastic Kunisada landscape print depicting the area surrounding the Kintai Bridge, a popular subject for printmakers. Two beauties stand on a hillside in the foreground and look. The print is from a set titled "Dutch Oil-painting Style" and exhibits these elements in the border, meant to mimic a framed painting, the strong colors, and the depiction of the trees in the lower left corner. A very interesting historical print that exhibits the western influence on Japanese art.
