Winter Writing, a Precious Letter, 1861

Comments - Handsome triptych depicting Prince Genji on a winter day, smiling as a beauty delivers an important letter to him. The nobleman sits on a cushion at right, warming his hands on brazier with a blue kimono draped over it, grinning as the young woman kneels before him, a black lacquer document box in her outstretched hand. A beauty standing at left watches him with a smile, wearing a beautiful burnished black coat with birds in flight on it. The room opens onto a verandah overlooking a lovely garden, with snow-covered pines framing a lake and a mansion in the distance. A beautiful design, attractively colored and detailed, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Artist - Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 29 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A couple small losses at edges, a few small holes, repaired, blends well. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
