Pleasure/Music (Raku), 1854 - Lovely scene of Prince Genji enjoying some musical entertainment. The young prince sits on a verandah, relaxing and smiling as the beauty in the center plays a kokyu, a small instrument similar to a shamisen but played upright with a bow. Behind her, a girl dances about, gracefully waving a fan and stretching out the sleeve of her iris print kimono, while at right two women play flute and lute. Red and white paper lanterns hang overhead, adding a festive air, while blossoming cherry trees fill the background. A charming image with wonderful color and detail in the sumptuous kimono fabrics and faint embossing in the cherry blossoms and white kimono collars. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
