Gathering at the Imperial Palace

Comments - Attractive scene of a gathering at the Imperial Palace, with the Meiji Emperor and Empress sitting in plush red chairs at left. Just below them, a lady-in-waiting carries in an offering tray piled with sweets, to add to the trays already waiting on a cloth covered table before the royal couple. Several beauties kneel around the edges of the room, with a few women bowing respectfully. The room opens onto a lovely view of a garden pond framed by blossoming cherry trees. A handsome triptych with vibrant color, detailed with embossing in the white kimono, and burnishing in the emperor's black jacket and the black kimono of the woman at far right.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 27 3/4" x 13 7/8"

Condition - This triptych with three separate panels. Backed with old paper. Some light toning at edges. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
