Series; Supplement of Fifteen Actor Portraits in Various Roles

Shotaro Hanayagi as Omiya in Konjiki Yasha, 1931 - Beautiful kabuki portrait of Shotaro Hanayagi as Omiya in the play "Konjiki Yasha." In the drama, she forsakes her childhood sweetheart to marry a rich man, but ends up unhappy and filled with remorse, longing for her lost love. She stands beneath a willow tree, looking ahead quietly, her eyes shadowed in pink, hinting at her suffering. She wears a blue outer kimono patterned with writing over a lavender robe with a snowflake print and a pale green under robe, also patterned with snowflakes. A woven straw hand and a folding fan are tucked under her arm. A purple cloth is pinned to her head, and a hairpin with dangling ornaments adorns her bun. A moving, expressive image, from a series of fifteen prints supplementing Shunsen's slightly earlier series of "Thirty-six Portraits of Actors in Various Roles."
