Restaurant at Yanagibashi in Ryogoku

Series; Connoisseur of Restaurants and Beauties

Restaurant at Yanagibashi in Ryogoku - Charming portrait of a beauty with a shamisen creeping down a hallway, leaning forward as she pauses to look into the open doorway of a room. She wears a tan kimono shaded to blue-gray and bordered with turtles, lifting the hem with her other hand as she walks. The sliding shoji screens behind her feature wood panels at the base, and a rectangular inset with a decorative Western-style frame shows an aerial view of a large restaurant along the water's edge at Yanagi Bridge in Ryogoku. An attractive Edo era design.

Artist - Eisen (1790 - 1848)
