Comments - Fantastic triptych depicting the Battle of Shidzu-ga-mine in 1583, where Hideyoshi defeated Shibata Katsuiye. Here Kato Kiyomasa leads his men in an attack, wielding a spear as he rides horseback. In place of battle standards, some of Kiyomasa's men carry clusters of bamboo poles gruesomely hung with the severed heads of enemies as they charge down a slope at right. At left, a warrior grips his sword above his head with both hands, his standard topped with two human skulls, that of an adult and a child. An incredible scene filled with action and movement, and the grim reality of war. Terrific detail in the expressive faces and armor, and beautiful lively color. A terrific choice for a samurai enthusiast.

Condition - This triptych with excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. Some rubbing and soiling at edges. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
